Android Developer Relations introduces training to help build better apps

The Android Developers blog announced that they are launching a beta of Android Training, “a collection of classes that we hope will help you to build better Android apps.”
As the battle between Android and iOS continues to expand and with Microsoft creeping up slowly behind them, the need for better apps is high. It seems that everyone, even Microsoft, have enough apps. Android is hoping to help developers build the best apps available through this training.
With resources on topics ranging from Implementing Adaptive UI Flows to Advertising without Compromising User Experience, Google hopes that by creating a collaborative atmosphere within their platform, it will continue to paint Apple’s as obtuse and restrictive. Whether that’s true or not is a question for developers themselves who have worked with the various mobile platforms, but it’s the subtle insinuation behind nearly everything that Google (and Microsoft) say when discussing the differences between developing on their platform and iOS.

700,000 Android devices now activated every day, Rubin reveals rising records

 

They're all about keeping it in the family over at Google, so it's no surprise that Andy Rubin took to Google+ to reveal that 700,000 Android devices are now being activated every day.

There was no messing about in his update, which simply read, "There are now over 700,000 Android devices activated every day."
He was then forced to clarify by nit-picking commenters, telling the cynics, "We count each device only once (ie, we don't count re-sold devices), and "activations" means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service."

Keep your wig on

In May 2011, the company revealed that 400,000 Android handsets were being switched on per day, leading to a colossal 200 million handsets in total in November 2011.
It's been a big year for Android in other ways too, with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich set to bring tablets and smartphones in line, although only the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has yet managed to launch with the frosty new OS.
Ice Cream Sandwich will be the one to watch in early 2012 as it hits the plethora of new tablets we're expecting to see at CES 2012 – can the illusive iPad 3 compete? We'll find out in Q1.

Google launching its Android tablet

LONDON: Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has revealed that the company is planning to bring its flagship Android tablet to the market in the next six months to rival Apple's iPad.
"In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality," Schmidt told an Italian newspaper.
Google has already had a hand in the development of the Motorola Xoom, but like other Android tablets, it suffered disappointing sales in a market dominated by the iPad.
Since then Google has itself become a major hardware manufacturer via its $12.5 billion dollars acquisition Motorola's devices division, which is currently under consideration by competition authorities.
According to The Telegraph, Schmidt paid tribute to Steve Jobs' role in kickstarting the tablet market, describing the iPad as "amazing".
"Steve Jobs was the Michelangelo of our time. A friend of mine and a unique character, able to combine creativity and visionary genius with an extraordinary engineering ability," the paper quoted him, as saying.
"Steve realised the revolutionary potential of the tablet and created an amazing product like the iPad," he added.
Schmidt said that competition between Android smartphones and the iPhone will be "brutal".
In the smartphone market, Google designs the Nexus range as both a testing ground for new versions of Android and to show off cutting-edge hardware. Samsung manufactures the most recent device, the Galaxy Nexus.
