Apple officially unveils the 'new iPad'

Apple does have the rumor mills work overtime, and the wait for its next generation of iPad – the new iPad (or the new iPad3/iPad HD) was no different. Yes, the Cupertino-based company has officially launched its next and the third version of the iPad. Cook began talking about the post PC devices and how iPad has successfully created a separate device category, altogether, before he began pitching in “the new iPad” that weighs 1.4lbs and is 9.4mm thin. We only wonder what's with the 'new name' Apple choose for its next generation iPad.

The next gen iPad as expected, employs a 9.7-inch Retina Display with high resolution of 2048 x 1536 and around 44 percent more colour saturation. It delivers four times the pixels, compared to the iPad 2, and the 3.1 million pixels in the Retina display are more than one million more pixels than an HDTV. It is fuelled by the powerful A5X dual core processor with quad-core graphics designed for swifter performance and responsive user experience to support the Retina display. It offers twice the performance, compared to A5 chip, while maintaining the power efficiency.

After camera-less original iPad, the company has shown room for improvements and gladly the iPad 3 features the 5 megapixel iSight camera with support for 1080p video recording. It comes with 5-element lens and IR filter. The new iPad will bring in voice dictation, giving everyone the taste of Siri. As expected, it also supports 4G LTE, it now supports 21Mbps HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA at 42Mbps, with LTE at 73Mbps (Verizon, Rogers, Bell, Telus and AT&T will be the LTE partners). The battery life is maintained 10 hours, while 9 hours on 4G.

The iPad Wi-Fi + 4G comes with built-in next generation 4G LTE that supports faster networks for HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA, and both CDMA and GSM iPad users can reap the benefits. Personal Hotspot can be used to share the fast network connection on your iPad with up to 5 other devices using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. On typing the microphone icon on the keyboard, iPad listens to you and converts it into text.  This can be used to write messages, take notes, search the web and more. It works with third-party apps and capable of updating Facebook status, tweeting, or writing Instagram captions.

The new iPad also brings in the latest update to the OS as the iOS 5.1. Chris Cheung from Autodesk showcased the new SketchBook Pro, a drawling app that focuses on art line for artists, exclusively available for iOS from April. Mike Capps, President of Epic Games launched Infinity Blade: Dungeons. Randy Ubillos, Chief Architect for Photo and Video apps talks about reinvention of iPhoto with new gestures, new effects, multi-touch editing, and you can beam photos directly between devices. There’s a new bezel gesture, too. Other elements to be updated are iWork and GarageBand.

A quick look at the highlights of the new iPad:
  • A5X chip with quad-core graphics
  • 9.7" Retina display with 3.1 million pixels
  • 5 megapixel iSight camera
  • 1080p video support
  • 4G+LTE
  • iOS 5.1 operating system

The new iPad has been dipped in shades of Black and White and will be made available starting March 16. It is now available for pre-order for select countries - Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the U.S Virgin Islands. The end of March will see the device reach another batch of countries, like New Zealand, Greece, Hungary, to name a few. Obviously, you won't see India making it to any of these lists, but going by the latest trend, we shouldn't have to wait too long, till the dainty devices reach our shores. The 16GB iPad is priced at $499 (approx Rs.25,092), 32GB at $599(approx Rs.30,120) and $699 (approx Rs. 35,150) for 64GB. For 4G services, the prices are $629 (approx Rs. 31,630), $729 (approx rs. 36,652) and $829 (approx Rs. 41,679), respectively. Obviously, one needs to keep in mind, when the new tablets hit the Indian markets, prices are bound to be on the higher side of the approximate rates mentioned above.

With the launch of the new iPad, the iPad 2 is made available at an affordable price of Rs. 24,500 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model and Rs. 32,900 for the 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G model.

Browse Rajnikanth's website even when connected to Internet

The allaboutRajni website, built by DesiMartini, runs on Ranji power and therefore requires end users to disconnect from Internet to continue browsing. Amazing, isn't it ?

The logic behind this website is very simple but quite innovative. The whole website is a flash file that downloads to your computer before playing. Once downloaded it starts sending packets to see if you're connected to Internet. If you are connected, the packets are successfully sent and you're barred of proceeding further. A message popups up saying "The only way to enter this website is to switch off your internet" while a Rajnikanth flavored background music keeps playing.

Now here comes the trick. Don't disconnect the internet yet no matter how curious you are to browse further into Rajnikanth's website.

Go to the section of your browser when proxy settings are defined. This is browser specific but very easy to figure out so I'm leaving this on you. Once there, put "invalid_proxy" or anything random in proxy server and "80" in port input field respectively, click on apply and you'll be successfully able to browse the website with a message "Your actions have earned you, the right to browse this website".

Once inside, you can browse through lots of facts about Rajnikanth and some really funny jokes like the one below. ( Of course you've heard it before )

To continue browsing other normal non-Rajni powered websites, revert the changes we just made but you may get this message because Rajnikanth will always be monitoring if you're offline and using Rajni power only. :)

After Megaupload, FileSonic Disables File Sharing

In the wake of the Megaupload shutdown, FileSonic has disabled the file-sharing capability on its site, effective immediately.
"All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally," the company said in a note on its Web site.
FileSonic did not elaborate as to why it disabled file sharing on its site, but the move comes days after the Department of Justice took down Megaupload.com for massive copyright infringement and indicted several of its executives.
FileSonic, which has offices in Surrey, Great Britain and Hong Kong, said it partners with Vobile Inc. in order to filter copyrighted content. Vobile's "digital fingerprinting technology will allow FileSonic to block your copyrighted materials from being illegitimately shared through its service," FileSonic's Web site says.
A free FileSonic account provides users with 10GB of storage, 1GB upload file size, and 30 days of storage time. For $9 per month, users get unlimited storage and storage time and a 5GB upload file size.
As noted by TorrentFreak, FileSonic had a rewards program that paid users when their files were downloaded. According to the DOJ indictment, Megaupload had a similar offering. "The conspirators allegedly paid users whom they specifically knew uploaded infringing content and publicized their links to users throughout the world," according to the DOJ.
"This combination of news all adds up to a pretty big deal. Filesonic isn't just some also-ran in the world of cyberlockers," TorrentFreak said. "The site is among the top 10 file-sharing sites on the Internet, with a quarter billion page views a month."

6 Best Audio Editing Software

There could be numerous reasons behind searching for the best audio editing software for Windows and whatever they may be, we’re here to help. From recording a few demos whilst jamming to your favorite instruments to cropping songs or even joining clips for various purposes, this list comes with both professional and lightweight tools that are capable of catering to your every audio need.

1. Pro Tools 10

To kick start the audio editing software options roster, we’ve got Pro Tools 10 that’s designed for recording, composing, editing and mixing music. Just as its name suggests, this professional level application allows you to capture sound clips, mix multiple audio file formats, add in a few effects and edit them in any way you want. And if you’re in need of some background beats, you can always use the pre-built virtual instruments and fill up a few gaps. The Pro Tools 10 price tag reads at $999 and it’s compatible with Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later versions. If you’re not quite sure about this software, the 30-day downloadable trial version should help you with your decision.

2. Audacity

Amongst most audio editing tools out there, Audacity is likely to be one of the simplest. Built as a free and open source project, this application holds capabilities of recording live tracks through a microphone and digitizing streams from cassette tapes and minidiscs. Once you’ve got all your audio files in place, the editing features allow you to cut, copy, paste and delete certain areas or even add in a few effects like echo, phaser, wahwah and reverse to give them a more polished and personalized feel. To finalize your recordings, Audacity can export these newly created tracks in WAV, AIFF, AU, MP3 and OGG formats.

3. Sound Forge Pro 10

When we talk about audio editing software candidates, we’re not only referring to chopping off the extras or creating smaller clips from one file. There’s a lot more involved than just these and most of them can be found in the Sound Forge Pro 10 application from Sony. Supporting 24-bit, 32-bit and 64-bit float 192KHz files, you can customize almost any audio format. For added convenience, this software allows you to use Windows commands to cut, copy, paste and mix sounds. And to spice things up, there are over 40 effects and processes including normalize, EQ, delay, chorus, volume, dynamics, noise gate, pitch shift, flange and vibrato. The Sound Forge Pro 10 price amounts to $374.95 and it’s compatible with the Windows OS.

4. Traverso DAW

Up next is the Traverso DAW application that seems to have focused most of its attention on delivering a clean and intuitive UI. Well, there’s a reason behind this. Graphical elements not only make accessing various features more convenient, but also eliminate the need to dig through menus and submenus in order to carry out operations. So most functions are accessible through simple mouse and keyboard combination. Editing-wise, you can apply a number of filters, adjust the volume and panning and create stereo channel tracks. And just in case you get clumsy, there’s unlimited availability of undo or redo actions.

5. Adobe Audition CS5.5

Equipped with an all new audio engine, the Adobe Audition CS5.5 software comes with multiplatform support. Besides the normal capabilities of recording, mixing and editing tracks, this application sports a number of features that allow you to do much more than just the basics. Starting with its interface, you can conveniently navigate through all the options from the intuitive UI that houses workspace panels, a few phase analysis tools and a powerful mixer. With the Multitrack View enabled, you can mix multiple stereo tracks or preview clips with effects in real time. The Adobe Audition CS5.5 price sums up to $349 and it’s available as a trial version too.

6. AmadeusPro

Last on our audio editing software options compilation is AmadeusPro. Built specifically for Mac computers, this tool support a wide variety of formats such as MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, Apple Lossless, AIFF, Wave and many more. For starts, you can trim multiple tracks at the same time. Whilst each clip features its own volume and panning controls, this application let you split them up and drag partitions around to build a single track. Well, these weren’t all – the batch processor converts your entire collection of edited files into a single MP3 and it can be programmed to automatically apply a sequence of sound effects in the process. The AmadeusPro price amounts to $59.99 on the Mac App Store.

Now that you’re aware of the 6 best audio editing software out there, you can easily carry out most sound-related operations from the comfort of your couch. That’s if you’ve got the right hardware and equipment of course. For basic requirements, a mic and appropriate cables should suffice. So pick an application that suits your needs the most and get started. Also, do drop in a few inputs on how things went?

Reasons why Aakash Tablet sucks and is not worth your money

Aakash Tablet is currently the hottest gadget in Indian markets but is it worth the heat ?
The device was brought into the market, by a Korean Company named Datawind affiliated by Indian Government, last year to provide poor students an affordable gadget. with a view that it'd help them better understand the ever changing world of modern technology. Media, press and several blog entries helped Aakash become an over-hyped product and as a result, January and February editions of the Tablet have been booked already.

Is it worth it your money ?

I would say no because the device's specifications resemble that of a cheap tablet made in China ( no kidding ).

  • The 336 MHz processor is not sufficient to provide a smooth multitasking experience.
  • The resistive touchscreen doesn't respond to touch of a finger( as you may already know) and it's not to responsive even when touched with stylus.
  • It doesn't has access to Android market, doesn't support hardware upgrades.
  • It doesn't even has speakers, to listen to audio you must purchase an external audio device with 3.5mm jack.
  • It can connect to Internet but only via Wi-Fi which is so rare to those poor Indian students that Aakash tries to target.
  • I don't see a reason why anyone would want to buy Aakash Tablet for themselves.
  • The design itself is weird, not like a modern gadget and sports a huge Aakash logo on the back. I'd be embarrassed to carry it in public with that logo on the back.

If I were to buy an  Aakash Tablet, I' would hang it on a wall to use it as digital photo frame. I don't see this device doing anything more than that.

Saw Facebook's timeline recently and didn't like it ? I didn't like it too.

On Safari
